How to keep up with your wellness routine during summer break

How to keep up with your wellness routine during summer break

Healthy habits can come and go quicker than we realize. In the summer, it can be harder to stick to your usual routine. Are you feeling like you need to get back into gear after a these past few warmer months? This article is for you.

How many times have you woken up on a Monday morning telling yourself, “This week is the week that I will make a change and start living healthier?” You might promise yourself to make it to the gym at least twice, give up the weekend booze, or drink more water.

And how many times have you beaten yourself up when Sunday rolls around and you realize you’ve accomplished almost none of the healthy living goals you set for yourself once again?

This summer season it's time to change all that. Stay on track with healthy eating, regular exercise, taking your supplements, and taking care of all the pillars of holistic health; doesn't that sound dreamy?

We're here to tell you that you can do it! Even with all the summer BBQs, vacations, and social events, it's not as hard as it may seem to reach your health goals.

First things first, join our Primal Harvest Tribe community for constant reminders, encouragement, and summer self-care tips. Wondering what to do with fresh herbs your gardening friend gave you? The Tribe can help. Wondering how to stop eating junk food and start exercising more? The Tribe can help.

Second, let's dive into this blog post on all things summer wellness. We want you to see and feel all the difference a simple wellness routine can do for you. Not only will it benefit your physical health, but you will feel better about your mental health, too.

Your summer wellness routine starts now

Let's start at the top of the day - your morning. Setting yourself up for success is essential to staying on track. If you've scrolled on social media for any amount of time, you've probably seen a video of someone showing off their healthy morning routine.

Sometimes, these videos can seem unreachable and unfair to people with busier, less privileged lifestyles - which can be true. However, it's all about taking baby steps towards the overall picture.

Start your morning with a daily routine that makes you feel good. Here are a few things you can try:

  • Don't hit the snooze button - this can negatively impact the rest of your day. Also, once you snooze, you never get back to the deep sleep you were in and it can make you more tired for the rest of the day.

  • Prep an easy, healthy breakfast - you already know our favorite is a Primal Greens smoothie, especially in the summer months.

  • Spend time meditating, journaling, or stretching - these quiet morning activities bring peace and help you gather your thoughts before the bustle of the day.

  • Exercise for as long as you can - you don't need to get an hour of exercise in to make it worth your time. If you can squeeze in 20-30 minutes of physical activity you will notice a difference.

  • Give yourself plenty of time - feeling rushed in the morning can negatively impact the rest of your day. Plan the night before or give yourself ample time if you know it's going to be a busy day.

How to stick to healthy eating

When you want to feel your best and stay on top of your health and wellness goals, eating healthy is absolutely essential. Just as time can get away from you, so can your healthy eating habits.

In order to stick to eating healthy this summer there are few steps you can take. Start with planning out your meals and meal times for the week. Dedicate 30 minutes each weekend to prep for the week to come.

Write out 5-7 healthy meals you enjoy (remember you can rely on leftovers in a pinch). If you need help with recipes, we have plenty on the blog. From there, you can write out a grocery list of the necessary items you'll need. Try to find recipes that overlap in ingredients to make it a little your life easier and help you save money!

If you have the time in your schedule after grocery shopping, an important step in eating healthy is food prepping. Not only does this save you time throughout the week, but it takes the anxiety out of having to eat healthy.

Simple ways to food prep include:

  • hard boiling eggs

  • chopping vegetables (for salads and for cooking)

  • grilling or baking chicken breast (for salads and stir-fry)

  • assembling lunches for the week in Tupperware

  • batch cooking casseroles and soups that you can store in the freezer

No matter how big or how small you want to go with it, you can never go wrong with preparing your meals on the weekends to help you get through the week.

It's also important to pay attention to the time of day you eat. Try to stay consistent for a week or two so you become accustomed to your routine.

Other healthy habits to help you stay on track

If you want to live a healthier life it really does have to become a focus - at least until you get the hang of it. In the beginning it isn't always fun, but your body and mind will thank you in the long run. Here are a few other habits worth focusing on this summer:

  • Pay attention to your sleep - getting enough quality hours of sleep each night can be life changing. If you're used to tossing and turning, consider a sleep support supplement, watch your alcohol intake, and make sure you're getting physical activity in each day. The benefits that come with a good night's sleep are almost endless.

  • Boost your serotonin levels - all this hard work and focus deserves a little fun. Try to shift your mindset into incorporating good habits with fun, like playing sports or taking a vegan cooking class. Get the best of both worlds!

  • Lower your stress levels - indulge in activities that will help balance your daily stress such as taking a hot bath, dancing to your favorite song, reading a good book, etc. The less time you spend looking at a screen, the better.

  • Consider a supplement routine - sometimes feeling good comes down to a vitamin or mineral deficiency. Your doctor can guide you on what nutrients you need more of each day in order to feel your best.

We hope you found these tips helpful to get you through these longer days. Take them with you into the fall and finish out the year strong. You can do it!
