7 Tips For Shiny Summer Hair

7 Tips For Shiny Summer Hair

Let’s face it, between the chlorine and salt water, summertime can leave your hair feeling dry and dull. And while messy beach waves look great, they aren’t for everyone. Summer heat, combined with your typical coloring, processing and styling, can also cause unwanted frizz and breakage. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to naturally restore your lustrous locks so you can have healthy, shiny hair all summer long.

Consider the following 7 tips for shiny summer hair!

Don't Shampoo Daily

Your scalp produces natural oil from glands beneath the skin called sebum. Sebum helps protect your skin and keeps hair hydrated. Most shampoos are designed to remove sebum from your hair. And although it feels clean to be oil free, these natural oils actually promote a healthy scalp and give your tresses a glossy sheen.

Some people produce more sebum than others, which is the basis for having “oily” or “dry” hair. Knowing what type of hair you have will help you know what kind of shampoo you should use, and how often you need to use it. Because shampoo can cause buildup on the scalp and dry out hair follicles, hairstylists often suggest shampooing only 2-3 times per week. If you have naturally oily hair, you can increase the amount of times you shampoo. If you have naturally dry hair, consider shampooing less and conditioning more.

Try A Hair Mask

Hair masks have become a super popular trend among beauty enthusiasts. They are designed to sit on your scalp for a period of time so the ingredients can soak into the root of your hair shaft and restore shine from the inside out.

You may be surprised to know that you can create a hair mask out of many items you probably have in your house right now. One of the most popular being, eggs! Eggs contain hair growth peptides that help nourish and moisture your hair. You can find recipes online for hair masks that feature natural, hydrating ingredients such as yogurt, avocado and olive oil.

Refrain from using hot tools

It’s no secret that styling your hair takes a toll on its natural sheen. Oftentimes at the salon, hairdressers will apply a product that protects your hair before applying a curling iron or blow dryer.

That said, there’s nothing easier than running a flat iron over your bed head to quickly create a clean, sleek look. Just be mindful of how often you are applying heat to your hair and the wear and tear it can cause. Try rocking natural hair through the week and save styling for a weekend night out!

Consider a Hair Support Supplement

Another way to treat hair from the inside out is to take a daily hair support supplement. Certain vitamins and minerals are essential for optimal hair and scalp health. Biotin, for example, helps metabolize proteins, carbohydrates and fats to promote hair growth, thickness and strength. It's also great for skin and nails, too!

Primal Harvest's Hair Growth Complex contains an exclusive Super Biotin formula that promotes strong hair without harsh chemicals or expensive treatments. This complex also contains Zinc, an essential mineral in hair care, that helps regulate oil production. Top it off with essentail B-vitamins and horsetail extract that promotes your hair sheen and gives you the shiny locks you desire. It's really a win, win!

Invest in Argan Oil

While your hair naturally produces oil, it’s always ok to add more between shampooing.  There are plenty of natural hair oils on the market that restore radiance in your locks. Use something like an argon or coconut oil on your ends daily or all over on a weekly basis for an extra boost. It will help with frizz, sun damage, and lack of moisture.

Give Your Hair a Coffee Rinse

It may sound odd seeing as coffee typically dehydrates due to it’s high caffeine content, however, when applied directly to the hair shaft, coffee can actually produce smooth, shiny, and soft hair.

Coffee contains polyphenols and bioflavonoids help moisturize and improve blood circulation to hair follicles. Shampoo and condition your hair regularly, towel dry, and then pour brewed coffee over your damp hair. Let the coffee sit for 15 minutes, then rinse out. Another, easier way to apply is to combine brewed coffee with a leave-in conditioner and use as advised.

 Apple. Cider. Vinegar.

If you pay attention to wellness trends, you know apple cider vinegar is all the rage. There are many health benefits to consuming ACV daily, outside of shinier hair, including smoother digestion, weight control, and higher energy levels. ACV is known to help with breakage and restore sheen. Some people mix the ACV into a morning beverage, even a glass of water, or you can apply it as a rinse (exactly the way you would apply the coffee rinse in tip 6).

Because ACV has such a strong and bitter taste, the Primal Harvest Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies are an easy and delicious way to consume your daily supply.

We hope these self-care tips and home remedies will help you keep shiny hair all summer long!
